Andrea has worked as a writer and editor for 15 years. This has taken various shapes, including editing magazines, editing books, reviewing books, writing marketing materials and writing scripts for radio.
She currently works on a freelance basis (see portfolio), but many long-term, in-house positions have helped her build up her editorial skills. Recent positions include Managing Editor of Boulevard magazine, Program Assistant at CBC Radio (Canada’s public broadcaster) and Media Monitoring Editor with the Government of British Columbia.
While working on her degree in the University of Victoria’s Writing Department, Andrea was immersed in different areas of the publishing industry through work experience positions. Being employed by Whitecap Books, Focus on Women magazine, Monday magazine and University of Victoria Public Relations allowed her to take academic ideas into the real work world — with all of its cryptic style guides, exacting authors, unforgiving deadlines and considerable heaps of yellow sticky notes.
Andrea takes an active interest in professional development, and attends workshops and regular meetings of the Professional Editors Association of Vancouver Island (PEAVI). She is also an active member of the CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers.
When Andrea’s not consumed by a manuscript or her family life, she teaches a variety of fitness classes and drinks strong coffee with good friends.
